SISU — the Symposium of Interior Architecture and Spatial Design — is organised every two years by the Estonian Association of Interior Architects. In 2019, for the first time, the symposium topic was chosen through a two-stage curatorial competition. The winning proposal was "Actual / Tegelik."

SISU 2019 focused on the physical presence of spatial practice — investigating strategies for intervention, making, and production through educational formats that combined direct engagement with the creation of physical space. The programme explored tactile and sensorial spatial experience, material design through the lens of interior architecture, and the principle articulated by longtime EKA professor Vello Asi: that space should always be designed from inside out.

From 12 to 14 June 2019, interior architects, students, and practitioners from neighbouring fields gathered at the Põhjala Factory in Tallinn for a three-day exploration split equally between workshops and lectures, building the symposium together from an empty space.
